New York golf industry veteran Christopher Alonzi will join the staff of The Summit Club at Armonk as golf course superintendent.

Alonzi has a strong background in new course construction and state-of-the-art turf management practices, in addition to significant experience in setting up courses for tournaments. He worked most recently as project manager and senior assistant at Westchester County’s Saint Andrews Golf Club, America’s oldest club. Prior to his experience there, he worked as the superintendent for 11 years at Elmwood Country Club, another historic Westchester facility.

“Chris has many years of experience at prominent golf clubs in the Met area and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a meticulous professional with extensive agronomic knowledge,” managing partner Jeffrey B. Mendell said. “Chris will ensure that The Summit Club is known for its superb course conditions.”

The course is scheduled to reopen in April after a Rees Jones-headed renovation that, according to Golf Course Architecture, included rebuilding all bunkers, reshaping landing
zones and green complexes, creating greenside
chipping areas and new tee boxes, and removing more than 400 trees.

Alonzi’s additional work experience includes assistant superintendent roles at Westchester Country Club and Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, New York. He is a member of the Alonzi family that counts two father-son superintendent legacies in the New York Metropolitan area. The Metropolitan Golf Writers Association honored the four Alonzis at their 2006 National Golf Awards Dinner as Family of the Year.
