The Refuge Golf Course, a daily-fee/resort course located in Flowood, Mississippi, has picked Honours Golf, to manage the club. The Refuge is currently in the final phase of a three-year renovation and development project and is expected to reopen for play this fall. Honours Golf is a division of Troon.
The Refuge originally opened for play in 1998 and quickly gained acclaim as one of the top public golf courses in the state. The golf course was closed for a complete renovation in 2018 and has remained closed since that time. Work on the new Sheraton at The Refuge resort and conference center and a new golf operations building is expected to be completed this fall.
Roy Case designed the original 6,400-yard layout in 1998, while golf course architect Nathan Crace, ASGCA oversaw the recent 18-hole course renovation, which included three new holes to create returning nines, new greens and bunkers, the installation of the Longleaf Tee System to allow the course to play anywhere between 4,000 and 7,000-plus yards, a new irrigation system, tree removal to widen playing corridors, new cart paths, and re-grassing. In 2019, The Refuge was awarded an “Environmental Excellence Award” for the renovation work and is nominated in Golf Digest’s “Best New” category for 2021. The golf course is routed through stands of towering pines and centuries-old oaks, while preserving the natural habitat and wildlife found throughout the property.
