Application period for the 19th annual Green Start Academy training program open through Aug. 1.
What the Green Start Academy offers
Green Start Academy is designed to prepare participants for entry-level careers in sustainability-focused and clean-energy industries. The training emphasizes hands-on learning, professional development, and connections to employers looking for job-ready candidates.
Participants can expect instruction and guided practice in core areas that are commonly required across green career pathways, including:
- Workplace readiness (communication, teamwork, time management, and job search strategies)
- Safety and jobsite fundamentals relevant to energy, construction, and facilities environments
- Introduction to sustainability concepts and how they apply across industries
- Career exploration across a range of green sectors and roles
Who should consider applying
The program is geared toward individuals who want to build practical skills and explore stable, in-demand career options tied to sustainability. Applicants who are changing careers, re-entering the workforce, or looking to supplement existing experience with green-industry training are encouraged to apply.
Selection is typically based on interest, commitment to completing the program, and alignment with the training’s career pathways. Applicants may be asked to provide basic background information and participate in an intake process to ensure the program is a good fit.
Training format and expectations
Green Start Academy includes structured coursework along with activities that mirror real workplace expectations. Attendance, participation, and completion of assigned work are important parts of the training experience.
In addition to classroom or lab-based instruction (depending on the cohort structure), participants may also take part in:
- Resume and interview preparation workshops
- Employer presentations and informational sessions
- Mock interviews and individualized coaching
- Career planning to map next steps after graduation
How to apply before Aug. 1
Interested applicants should complete the required application materials as early as possible to allow time for review and any follow-up steps. After submitting an application, candidates may be contacted for additional details or an interview as part of the selection process.
To strengthen an application, applicants should be prepared to clearly describe:
- Why they are interested in green careers and sustainability-focused work
- What type of job or industry they want to pursue after training
- Any previous work experience, volunteer experience, or training that supports their goals
- Availability to fully participate for the duration of the program
What comes next after acceptance
Accepted participants typically receive onboarding details, training schedules, and a clear outline of expectations prior to the first day. This early orientation helps participants plan for attendance, transportation, and any required documentation.
Graduates leave the program with a stronger understanding of green career pathways and practical tools they can use immediately in a job search, including updated application materials and increased confidence navigating interviews and employer outreach.
